Meet Me! Attorney Q&A for Christina Gilbertson

What do you do for your clients?

I use my years of experience as a trial attorney to help small businesses ensure that they are prepared and protected should an issue arise, and hopefully avoid the courtroom all together. I provide my services via subscription and flat fee projects in an effort to make access to legal services affordable and realistic.

Why did you decide to become an attorney?

I’ve always liked being a creative problem solver. I spent the first 14 years of my career working with large Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies. While I learned a lot during that time, I wanted to be more than a number on a spreadsheet in a 7-figure legal budget. Every now and then, I’d get to work with a smaller business, and found those experiences to be much more worthwhile and fulfilling. I saw time and again that small businesses were more or less left out of the game when it came to getting quality legal services, as they were often overlooked by big firms, or priced out of getting the legal advice they needed. Those small and mid-size businesses are exactly who I want to work with to help them to grow and thrive.

What gets you up in the morning? How do you typically start your day?

My kids are why I get up in the morning. Everything I do is for them. I want them to have an amazing life, and I want to be present for it, which is another reason I left the corporate world.

Why did you decide to become an Auxana GC?

Auxana is perfectly in line with my frame of mind when it comes to the delivery of legal services. I’m excited to join a group of like-minded individuals who I can learn from and grow with!

What is your stance on the innovation of the legal industry?

I think that the legal industry is behind the curve when it comes to innovation. I’ve tried to build my practice to be innovative and go against the grain. My practice is virtual, and I use a lot of technology to service my clients efficiently.

Speaking of efficiency, hourly billing needs to go! But in the right way – I’ve seen firms claim that they offer “flat fees”, but I question the quality of the services being offered under that guise, I.e., if the attorneys working on a flat fee matter are expected to spend as little time as possible on that file.

What would you do if you weren’t an attorney?

My dream job is to one day open a bakery, specializing in cakes and cupcakes. I love to make and decorate cakes for parties. It’s my creative outlet!
